Distillation is a process used widely in the laboratory or in wider working environments for separating or purifying liquids or liquid mixtures based on the different boiling points of individual components.
Distillation Applications:
• Separation and purification of miscible liquid mixtures in organic chemistry
• Drying of solid residues and/or solvent removal
• Fractional distillation of liquids from polymers and petroleum products
• Removal of particulates or other solid contaminants
• As part of a water purification system for production of distilled water for laboratory use
• Specialist steam distillation-based applications such as Kjeldahl analysis of nitrogen and proteins in food, beverage, or environmental samples
What Types of Distillation Equipment Are Available?
Conventional distillation apparatus, typically comprising individual, jointed borosilicate glassware components assembled by the user (depending upon the application), using appropriate clamps, stands, and supports. Most conventional distillation assemblies combine a round-bottomed distilling flask to contain and heat the liquid(s) that require purification, fitted with a stoppered or jointed neck to which is attached a downward-sloping, inclined side-arm for connection to a condensing unit to cool the heated vapors back down to their liquid state. Heating mantles are the preferred heat source for improved temperature control. These conventional distillation units are also available supplied complete and ready-assembled for added convenience and ease of use.
Specialized automated distillation equipment, notably units designed for the determination of volatile acidity and alcoholic strength by volume in wines, musts, and alcoholic beverages, and units designed for Kjeldahl nitrogen or protein determinations.

Harvest Tube, M10, for 5L Bio Reactors. Harvest tubes mount into the outer M10 or M27 thread on the standard head plate. The design has the tapered tip within 2mm of the bottom of the bio reaction vessel to allow complete harvesting of all cells. The 15 Liter size has an M27 thread with 1/2” tubing for quicker harvest. Adapter, Flexible, Cajon Ultra-Torr, Use with 3/8in OD Tube, 24in Flexible Length, Airfree, Schlenk. Cajon adapters provide the flexibility of rubber tubing and are the ideal replacement for rubber, plastic, or glass tubing in critical vacuum applications. Connections compensate for misalignment, expansion and contraction; they are compressible by at least 20%, and they are extendable by 50% of its nominal listed length. Cajon adapters are supplied complete with two AF-0067 unions, two AF-0068 cuff adapters, and listed length of flexible tubing. NOTE: Since Flexible tubing will contract when evacuated, glass apparatus should NOT be firmly clamped in place until vacuum is established within the system.

The lower three-way PTFE stopcock allows for the withdraw or return of the distillate during the distillation process. With a 10/30 outer joint on the top of the vapor tube for a 3” immersion thermometer. Graduations are the same as CG-1261.

Distilling Receiver, 50mL, Dean-Stark, Modified, 24/40 Joint Size, 4mm PTFE Stopcock, Approx. 355mm Height x 240mm Width. This innovative and compact Dean-Stark receiver is designed for azeotropic distillations using solvents that are heavier than water. The solvent vapor travels through tube “A” to a condenser inserted in the top standard taper outer joint. Vapors are condensed and collected in the reservoir section. The layers separate and the heavier than water solvent overflows through tube “C” back into the distillation flask. The upper water layer is drained out intermittently using the 4mm PTFE stopcock “D”. Capacity of the lower reservoir is approx. 50mL.
